“The fact that Baku is playing host to the important United Nations conference on urban planning is testament to the fact that Azerbaijan is now a recognized global player,” US expert Rob Sobhani told AZERTAC.
Noting that the United Nations had the choice to host this event in other cities across the globe, but it chose Baku, the American expert stated: “Why? Because Baku is a mix of old and new. It's a mix of tradition and modernity. It's where you have Maiden Tower that goes back to the 12th century and yet at the same time you have beautiful buildings such as the Flame Tower. And the fact that the United Nations chose Baku, chose Azerbaijan, is also testament to the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
“Azerbaijan has been host to numerous conferences on Islamic dialogue, climate change and other themes. Azerbaijan is now becoming the country that is known in the world as the one that is bringing modernity and tradition for the benefit of society, for the betterment of humanity. That is why Azerbaijan today, on the global scale, is respected. When President Ilham Aliyev visited the White House this past August, President Trump singled out President Ilham Aliyev as the world leader who is making a major difference, not just for his own country, but for the whole region. And that is why this conference is a testament to the fact that Azerbaijan's foreign policy, which is based on constructive relations to solve global problems, is resonating with the world within the institutions like the United Nations,” the US expert added.
