Teymur Musayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health, met with leading specialists of high international repute in headache disorders.
The meeting was attended by renowned scholars from Denmark, Germany, Belgium, and Italy, including Professor Messoud Ashina, Professor of Neurology at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and former President of the International Headache Society (IHS); Professor Zaza Katsarava of the University of Essen, former President of the European Headache Federation (EHF); Professor Jan Versijpt, Head of the Neurology Clinic at Brussels University Hospital and member of the EHF Executive Board; Professor Gianluca Coppola of Sapienza University, a member of the Headache Panel of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN); as well as migraine and headache specialist Sarkhan Amirguliyev, co-founder of the Azerbaijan Migraine Specialists Public Association.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of headaches and migraine, international clinical approaches in this field, as well as prospects for future cooperation.
Minister Teymur Musayev emphasized that the country’s leadership consistently pays special attention and care to the healthcare sector, particularly to the development of specialized medical services. He noted that within the framework of reforms implemented in Azerbaijan’s healthcare system in recent years, significant steps have been taken in neurology, including the diagnosis and treatment of headaches. “Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the modernization of the healthcare system, the application of advanced international experience, and the provision of the population with high-quality medical services are among the main priorities of state policy. In this regard, cooperation with international experts is of particular importance for us,” the minister stated.
The minister also noted that such meetings contribute to enhancing the knowledge and skills of local specialists, strengthening scientific and educational ties, and promoting the implementation of advanced treatment protocols.
In turn, the specialists highly appreciated the healthcare reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan and expressed their interest in expanding scientific and practical cooperation. They emphasized that headaches (cephalalgia) cause significant socio-economic damage to society and are among the top ten causes of disability worldwide. They also stressed the importance of professional training of healthcare workers, accurate diagnosis, and simple lifestyle modifications to ensure the effective treatment of headaches.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual concern.
