Hidayat Heydarov will compete in the 73 kg weight category at the upcoming World Judo Championships in Baku, Elnur Mammadli, Vice President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (AJF), stated during a press conference dedicated to the championship, Report informs.
"Hidayat Heydarov will compete in the 73 kg category at the World Championships in Baku. Eljan Hajiev's participation remains uncertain. He is currently in Japan for training after undergoing surgery. The final team lineup will be determined later," he said.
AJF Executive Vice President Rashad Rasulov, in turn, added that every athlete must work hard to secure a place in the squad.
Hidayat Heydarov recently competed in the 81 kg category at the Grand Prix in Qingdao, China, where he won a bronze medal.
The 2026 World Judo Championships will be held from October 4–11 at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku.
