Azerbaijan sends 40 players to 2026 European Youth Chess Championship

Azerbaijani chess players will compete in the European Youth Chess Championship, scheduled to take place in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece, from November 3 to 12.

Azerbaijan will be represented by 40 players, including reigning youth world champion Zahra Allahverdi, European Championship silver medallist Mehriban Ahmadli and continental bronze medallist Maryam Aghaverdiyeva.

The competition will feature six age categories – U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 – with separate open and girls’ sections. Each championship will consist of nine rounds played under the Swiss system, with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move from the first move.

The event is expected to bring together nearly 1,250 young players from 49 European federations, including 281 titled players.
