On November 20, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tufan Erhürman, received a delegation led by the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), Ramil Hasan.
Secretary General Hasan highlighted that, within the framework of his visits, he has held productive meetings with the Foreign Ministers and Speakers of Parliament of TURKPA member states, during which views were exchanged on the provision of appropriate support to the TRNC in the future. He further underscored that the active participation of the TRNC in the Assembly’s key events would continue to receive due support.
Hasan briefed the President on the major initiatives recently undertaken by TURKPA and drew special attention to the high-level support extended to the TRNC during the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held in Gabala under the leadership of the Heads of State. He reaffirmed TURKPA’s readiness to provide comprehensive support to the future activities of the TRNC within the framework of the Assembly’s mandate.
The Secretary General also underlined that, under the leadership of the TURKPA Chairman-in-Office, Yerlan Koshanov, Chair of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Assembly is preparing important and strategically significant initiatives for 2026, noting the valuable role and active engagement of TRNC representatives in these efforts.
President Erhürman, in turn, expressed confidence that the relations between the TRNC and TURKPA would continue to strengthen during Mr. Hasan’s tenure, supported both by parliamentary diplomacy and the unwavering solidarity of the brotherly Turkic states. Erhürman emphasized that the Turkic States would continue to support the rightful cause of the TRNC in accordance with the norms of international law and reaffirmed his belief that the TRNC would maintain its active participation in projects carried out within the framework of the OTS, as well as play a meaningful role in TURKPA’s activities planned for 2026.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretaries General Talgat Aduov and Muhammet Alper Hayali, along with Alesker Aghayev of the International Secretariat.
