Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation led by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on the sidelines of the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in Baku.
During the meeting, Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the importance of the 12th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. She noted that personal relations and close contacts between the heads of state are key factors ensuring the steady development of allied relations. Sahiba Gafarova congratulated Türkiye on being elected as the host of COP31, emphasizing that Azerbaijan always stands by the fraternal country.
The Speaker underscored the importance of interparliamentary relations as an integral part of interstate cooperation and praised the efforts of mutual friendship groups operating in both parliaments. She hailed the successful development of bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral cooperation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz expressed his gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support in Türkiye’s selection as host of COP31, noting that Türkiye will apply Azerbaijan’s experience to organize this important international event.
He also highlighted that megaprojects jointly implemented by the two countries in economic, trade, investment, energy, and other areas carry significant regional and global importance. Cevdet Yılmaz stressed the strategic significance of the Zangezur corridor, which is expected to become a key part of the Middle Corridor.
Touching on achievements in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, he noted that the signing of a peace treaty between the two countries will ensure peace and stability in the region.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
