Azerbaijan is a strategically important partner and a crucial energy supplier to Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, told TRT Haber channel.
According to the minister, Baku continues to make significant contributions to Türkiye 's energy security.
Bayraktar drew attention to the growing demand for energy resources, including natural gas, in Türkiye.
"The Turkish government is making serious efforts to meet this demand. Our priority is to increase gas production in Türkiye itself, especially from the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea. Simultaneously, it is important to ensure the import of natural gas on favorable terms. Azerbaijan is an important partner for Türkiye in this regard, and we have been cooperating with this country for many years," the Turkish minister emphasized.
He cited as examples the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) projects. "A significant amount of Azerbaijani gas is delivered to Türkiye through these pipelines. Today, we are committed to enhancing the cooperation. In early January, an agreement was signed between Ankara and Baku for the supply of 2.25 billion cubic meters of gas," Bayraktar underlined. He noted that new volumes of gas from Azerbaijan will be supplied in 2029.
