Minister: Zangezur corridor will enhance the capacity of the Middle Corridor

“The launch of the Zangezur corridor will open up extended opportunities for cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor,” said Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu during his visit to Batman province.

Noting that the construction of the Kars-Iğdır-Aralık-Dilucu (border with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic) railway is under progress, the minister added: "With the opening of all parts of the Zangezur corridor, including the segments located in Azerbaijan and Armenia, the capacity of the corridor will increase. Alternative opportunities will enhance the efficiency of freight transportation between China and Europe”.

The Transport Minister recalled that uninterrupted communication between Asia and Europe is ensured thanks to the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Marmaray tunnel, which runs under the Bosphorus.

"Currently, cargo is delivered by sea along the Middle Corridor in just 18 days instead of 35 days. In some cases, transporting products by sea from China to Europe takes a total of 45 days," he noted.

Uraloğlu also emphasized that Batman province will turn into one of the logistics hubs on the "Development Road" project.
