In their statement, the Polish Border Guards stated that the guards are constantly patrolling the border and that the region is strictly monitored with thermal cameras. Emphasising that there were approximately 20 thousand illegal crossing attempts from the Belarusian border to Poland in 2023 alone, the border guards also stated that irregular migrants sometimes organised attacks with groups of up to 40 people.
Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced on public radio last week that 10 thousand soldiers would be deployed to strengthen the border regions.
