“Transport corridors stretching from Europe to Asia beyond are some of the most important infrastructure investments of our time. As these complex investments accelerate along the Middle Corridor, they pass from China to Central Asia and then through Azerbaijan. Extending to European cities, real opportunities arise for cities located along the route to diversify their economies, attract green industries, advanced logistics services, agro-processing and digital enterprises,” said Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, during a special session on “Cities at the heart of connectivity: Urban reconstruction and regional cooperation” held within the framework of the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13).
She noted that the corridor is becoming a key point supporting the development of an entire region, not just a passage or transit route.
“2.8 billion people lack access to safe and adequate housing. Millions of people have been displaced by conflict or climate change,” Anacláudia Rossbach.
