Mukhtar Babayev highlights intensifying climate change impacts

The extreme heat waves currently affecting Europe and other regions clearly demonstrate the growing consequences of climate change, said Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues, during the opening ceremony of the 20th Baku Energy Summer School.

According to him, floods, droughts, heat waves, and other hydrometeorological disasters are becoming more frequent and severe.

“Global interest in nuclear energy has increased significantly since COP28. However, the recent heat waves in Europe have also affected the operations of the nuclear energy sector. This is due to falling water levels in rivers and rising water temperatures, which prevent cooling systems from operating efficiently. These developments further underscore the need for discussions on climate change,” Babayev added.
