NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte described the incident as a reckless act by Russia and announced that the Alliance's air and ground defense systems have been activated.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on his social media account that during the large-scale attacks on Ukraine at night, a 'Kh-101' type cruise missile violated Polish airspace. Tusk reported that the missile fell 50 kilometers away from the city of Lublin and stated that the missile likely belonged to Russia. Tusk expressed his gratitude to the European Union (EU) and NATO leaders for their solidarity and preparedness to assist.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also made an assessment on the matter via his social media account. Rutte stated that he had a meeting with Prime Minister Tusk regarding the violation of Polish airspace and reported that Poland and NATO had activated their air and ground defense systems. Emphasizing their full solidarity with Poland, Rutte highlighted that they would continue to strengthen defense preparations against all kinds of threats, including missile attacks.
Describing the violation as Russia's 'reckless act' and a dangerous consequence of the war against Ukraine, Rutte condemned the deadly attacks carried out across Ukraine at night. The NATO Secretary General noted that the Alliance would continue to provide the essential support needed for Ukraine to defend itself and that their determination in this regard was unwavering.
