As part of her visit to South Africa, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Fateh Boutbig, President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
The sides held a broad exchange of views on friendly relations between Azerbaijan and African countries, prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as issues of mutual interest.
The meeting highlighted the important role of parliaments in implementing the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063.
PAP President Fatih Boutbig stated that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner for African countries, adding that the countries are united by shared values and relations based on mutual respect.
According to him, parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in strengthening ties between peoples and promoting mutual interests.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with African countries, emphasizing the significance of expanding inter-parliamentary relations, strengthening political dialogue, increasing mutual trust, and developing cooperation in new areas.
Stressing that further expansion of inter-parliamentary relations would serve mutual interests, the Azerbaijani Speaker pointed out good opportunities for expanding institutional cooperation with the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.
The meeting also featured an exchange of views on the prospects for developing cooperation between Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis and the Pan-African Parliament, as well as between the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and the Pan-African Parliament, interaction within the framework of international parliamentary organizations, as well as other issues of common interest.
