U.S. President Donald Trump signed two executive orders aimed at further restricting birthright citizenship.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order at a ceremony held in the Oval Office, expanding the categories of individuals who do not have birthright citizenship. Trump also signed another executive order to ban the practice of 'birth tourism', which involves people coming to the U.S. on temporary visas for their children to gain citizenship. Before signing, Trump commented on birthright citizenship, saying, "This was for the babies of slaves, and now what's happening? People are setting up businesses in this area. This was not how it was supposed to be."
Calling the recent Supreme Court decisions on birthright citizenship 'unfortunate', Trump said, "We are making regulations because it is very unfair."
