Pakistan's Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar made a statement on his social media account regarding the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed on August 7 between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. Dar noted that the agreement reflects the depth of fraternal relations between the leaders and peoples of the three countries, emphasizing the years of discussions and coordination among the parties with the desire to find solutions to multidimensional security issues and enhance regional prosperity. Dar stated that the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement will not annul or alter bilateral or multilateral agreements made between the signatory countries and other countries or organizations.
Under the agreement, Dar conveyed that 'any external armed attack against any of these three countries' will be considered 'an attack against all' in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations (UN) Charter, stating, "The Mecca Agreement is purely defensive in nature. No country is targeted, and its sole purpose is to further strengthen our ongoing efforts towards peace, stability, and prosperity in the broader region. The Mecca Agreement is open to any regional country willing to adopt its fundamental principles and resolve differences through mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful means," he said.
