The death toll from last week's flood in Nepal has risen to 987, with 3,916 people still missing.
In a statement by the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), it was noted that the death toll has increased in the flood that occurred in the Rasuwa region on August 26. While search and rescue operations continue in the region, the number of those who lost their lives has reached 987, and 3,916 people are still missing.
The statement reported that bodies were recovered from 8 different areas where floodwaters had swept through. The death tolls were reported as 321 in Chitwan, 216 in East Nawalparasi, 170 in West Nawalparasi, 95 in Nuwakot, 65 in Gorkha, 55 in Dhading, 38 in Tanahun, and 27 in Rasuwa. It was stated that 279 people were injured in the flood, and more than 11,800 people were evacuated and rescued with helicopter-supported operations.
It was noted that 865 people are missing in the Rasuwa region, where search efforts are concentrated, and among the missing are 639 hydropower plant workers and 583 foreign nationals. It was reported that more than 21,000 security personnel are involved in the aid and search operations in the region.
