Stabbing Attack in the US: Suspect Who Killed One at Times Square Shot by Police

The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that the incident occurred around 4:30 PM local time at Times Square, one of the city's busiest areas. The 49-year-old female suspect, who threatened bystanders with two kitchen knives she pulled from her bag, stabbed a 68-year-old man and then a 32-year-old woman in the abdomen as they exited a subway station. It was noted that the woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while the injured man's condition is stable.

Following the attack, the suspect, who was near a police station with the knives in her hand, was approached by officers. When she ignored warnings to drop the knives and continued making threats, a taser was initially used. As the taser proved ineffective and the suspect advanced towards the officers, shots were fired. It was reported that the female suspect died at the hospital where she was taken.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the attack was not linked to terrorism, and noted that the suspect had a history of psychological issues but no criminal record.
