Chinese and French Foreign Ministers Hold Phone Talks

It was reported that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot held a phone conversation. During the talks, the ministers discussed bilateral relations, trade tensions with the European Union (EU), and global crises. In the meeting, which took place at France's request, the two ministers emphasized their determination to maintain strategic dialogue and enhance cooperation against global risks as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in a complex international environment.

'PROTECTIONISM WILL INCREASE INFLATION IN EUROPE'

Addressing the economic relations between Beijing and Brussels, Wang stated that trade disputes should be resolved through constructive dialogue and that escalation should be avoided. Wang argued that protectionist policies would not enhance Europe's competitiveness; instead, they would hinder consumers' access to affordable products, increase inflation, and disrupt the transition to green energy. Wang Yi also mentioned that they expect France to play a rational role in balancing EU-China relations.

French Foreign Minister Barrot noted that they are aware of the economic and trade challenges between the EU and China, and stated that they are ready to encourage constructive negotiations between the parties to find common solutions.

During the talks, the Ukraine War and tensions in the Middle East were also assessed, and Wang Yi informed his counterpart about Chinese President Xi Jinping's security proposals aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region.
