Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting today in the capital Beijing with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakçi. Wang stated that the instability in the Middle East continues and seriously affects international peace and development. As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), China is ready to play a constructive role in resolving international disputes, Wang said, adding, "China and Iran are comprehensive strategic partners. China is ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Iran and to protect Iran's legitimate rights and interests. The prolongation of the US-Iran conflict is not in the common interests of the parties and the international community. We call on Iran and the US to be rational and restrained, to rebuild the negotiation mechanism in line with the agreements reached so far, and to discuss issues of mutual concern."
During the meeting, Arakçi shared the latest situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region and Iran's plans for the next steps. Arakçi noted that Iran does not want the conflict to continue and wishes to return to the diplomatic solution channel, stating, "Iran will resolutely protect its rights and interests. Iran believes that the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding is valid. Iran has reached an agreement with Oman on a plan to open the Strait of Hormuz, and the US must fulfill all its commitments in practice."
Iranian Foreign Minister Arakçi also stated that Iran attaches great importance to its relations with China and is ready to deepen concrete cooperation.
