An Azerbaijani delegation led by Colonel General Ali Naghiyev, Chief of the State Security Service (SSS), participated in a meeting of the heads of special services of the Central Asian states and Azerbaijan held in the Republic of Kazakhstan under the theme “Ensuring Regional Security Amid Modern Threats.”
Addressing the event, Colonel General Ali Naghiyev emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia demonstrates the strategic nature of relations between Azerbaijan and the Central Asian countries. He described Azerbaijan’s becoming a full-fledged participant in the format as a historic step toward strengthening regional peace, stability and security, noting that ties with Central Asian states have reached a qualitatively new stage.
The State Security Service Chief said regional security threats include terrorism, religious extremism, transnational crime, illicit drug and arms trafficking, cybercrime and threats to critical infrastructure. He highlighted the growing concern over criminal and terrorist groups using modern technologies to target vital facilities.
Colonel General Ali Naghiyev expressed confidence that the atmosphere of brotherhood, mutual respect and trust between the two countries would continue to enhance.
In conclusion, the sides agreed to continue close cooperation among the special services to further strengthen regional security and stability.
