“The diplomatic corps’ visit to Garabagh and East Zangezur has caused serious concern among Armenian revanchist forces, prompting reactions that could hinder the peace process. However, the other side must now accept the new political realities in the region and step up efforts to strengthen political dialogue,” Soltan Mammadov, a member of the Milli Majlis, told AZERTAC.
The MP said the other side’s contradictory statements concerning foreign diplomats are unacceptable. He noted that Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War restored historical justice and enabled the country to return to its lands, adding that such statements amount to interference in its internal affairs.
Noting that attempts have been made for years to falsify the cultural and historical heritage of Azerbaijan’s ancient lands, Soltan Mammadov added: “Statements portraying the Ganjasar and Khudavang monasteries as part of Armenian history are contrary to historical facts. Another point of concern is the racist attitude toward the Azerbaijani people. As is known, Caucasian Albania is studied in historical sources around the world as part of Azerbaijan’s historical heritage. Unfortunately, such manipulative approaches are aimed at denying our cultural heritage as a whole and promoting racism.”
Mammadov said the South Caucasus has entered a new political phase based on peace and cooperation, urging Armenia to adapt to the region’s new realities. He added that despite Azerbaijan’s consistent support for the peace process, such statements by the other side are perceived as a refusal to engage in negotiations.
