Chinese Ministry of Commerce Spokesperson He Yadong addressed the latest developments in the negotiations concerning the mutual tariff reduction of 30 billion dollars between China and the US at a press conference held today. He stated that the economic and trade teams of both sides are in close contact regarding customs duties.
In his speech, Spokesperson He also commented on the Public Procurement Law, which includes provisions prioritizing European companies with the 'Made in EU' requirement. He emphasized that the European Commission has included non-market conditions such as security in the evaluation standards in addition to the 'Made in EU' requirement in this law. He noted that third-country firms that do not meet the proposed conditions are excluded or restricted, which has drawn China's attention.
He Yadong stated that China calls on the European Union (EU) to adhere to World Trade Organization (WTO) norms to protect the open market and to amend the discriminatory provisions in the draft law, saying, “We expect the EU to create an equal, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for companies to invest and do business in Europe.”
