U.S. President Donald Trump signed the 'Lindsey O. Graham 2026 Russia and Iran Sanctions Act', expanding sanctions against Russia and extending the duration of sanctions against Iran.
According to a statement from the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump signed the Russia sanctions bill. The regulation titled 'Lindsey O. Graham 2026 Russia and Iran Sanctions Act' expands legal sanctions, tariffs, and bans against Russia, while also extending the duration of existing sanctions against Iran. The bill was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives this week following the Senate's approval on August 7.
The law envisions sanctions against Russian officials, banks, and ships used in transporting Russian energy. The regulation also grants Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on products from the five countries that import the most Russian oil or natural gas. Under the regulation, the duration of sanctions against Iran is extended by 5 years, maintaining sanctions targeting the country's energy and weapons sectors.
The law is named after Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who worked on drafting the bill and passed away in July.
