Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, met with Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation as part of Azerbaijan’s associate membership in the IEC, as well as on the application of international standards in the areas of energy transition, electrification, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and new technologies.
The IEC Secretary-General hailed Azerbaijan’s growing role in the global energy and climate agenda, as well as the initiatives it advanced to combat climate change during its COP29 presidency. He underlined that Azerbaijan’s accession to the organization as an associate member this year has created new opportunities for cooperation. The IEC expressed its readiness to support Azerbaijan in standardization and conformity assessment in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, clean energy, and energy efficiency.
The meeting also highlighted that electrification is becoming one of the key trends shaping the future development of the global energy system and economy. In this regard, the importance of not only creating new power generation capacities but also developing modern infrastructure to ensure the transmission, exchange, and delivery of electricity to consumers was emphasized.
The sides also exchanged views on the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe Green Energy Corridor project.
