On the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the 37th high-level meeting of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC), titled “Rebuilding Trust, Cooperation and Global Stability for a Shared Future,” was held in New York.
The meeting brought together state and government officials, representatives of the UN and other international organizations, former heads of state, and experts.
The event heard opening remarks by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO); Miguel Ángel Moratinos, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC); Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE); Ismail Serageldin, Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center; and other high-ranking officials.
The speeches focused on restoring trust within the international system, the future of multilateralism, the role of international law, geopolitical confrontations, diplomacy, and cooperation in global health.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the importance of cooperation and strengthening trust among states in the face of global threats.
Miguel Ángel Moratinos underlined that a multipolar world requires effective international institutions and preventive diplomacy to ensure peace.
Tatiana Molcean addressed the pressures caused by the war in Ukraine, economic uncertainty, and climate risks, while Wu Hongbo, former Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs, touched upon issues of sovereign equality, international law, and multilateralism.
On the first day of the meeting, discussions continued across four main panels.
The 37th High-Level Meeting will continue today with discussions dedicated to energy security, climate, artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty, the future of multilateralism, and global health.
