Trump reacts to calls for new sanctions on Russia
U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to some people's calls for new sanctions on Moscow while negotiating for the release of Americans detained in Russia.

U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard, who was released by Russia, at the White House. Thanking Russian President Vladimir Putin for releasing Hubbard, Trump said they were working well with Moscow. While negotiating with Moscow, Trump recalled that some people wanted new sanctions imposed on Russia, stating, “We were negotiating for Hubbard, but some foolish people wanted me to impose new sanctions on Russia. If I had imposed new sanctions on Russia, it would not have been good for Hubbard.”

Speaking about Iran, Trump noted that the money spent on the war was not very high, saying, “We have more than compensated for all the money we spent in Iran with what we have done in Venezuela.” Trump stated that talks with Iran were ongoing, adding, “They want to talk to us. They keep talking, we have time. This is a war, but not an ordinary war.”
