Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health Teymur Musayev participated in the ministerial panel session on the theme “Protecting Future Generations: Health at the Center of the Environmental Agenda - Lessons and Solutions from the Aral Sea Basin” held as part the Regional Ecological Summit (RES-2026) in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva and Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus addressed the opening ceremony.

During the panel session, WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge delivered a presentation of the roadmap aimed at improving health and sustainable development in the Aral Sea region.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health Teymur Musayev addressed the ministerial-level panel session focused on regional commitments for a healthy future of the Aral Sea and Caspian Sea regions, noting that global warming directly affects aquatic biodiversity by changing the thermal structure and oxygen levels of water bodies.

Other speakers at the session included health ministers of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

The event concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration by Azerbaijan and the Central Asian countries.

The document envisages expanding joint activities in the region to address climate change, environmental protection, and human health.

The Summit also featured bilateral meetings, discussions on strengthening cooperation in the fields of environment and health, and familiarization visits to Kazakhstan’s leading medical institutions.

The summit aims to develop a shared policy framework and practical tools for the protection, restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems, water and land resources, and biodiversity conservation.
