Bayern secures their qualification to the quarter-finals by defeating Atalanta at home 6-1: three goals per half by Stanisic (12'), Olise (22'), Gnabry (25'), Jackson (52'), Olise again (64') with a standing ovation, and finally Musiala (67'), according to One Football.
At the end of injury time, Pasalic scores the consolation goal. The return leg, now a mere formality, will be played at the Allianz Arena on March 18.
In the very first minutes, Atalanta creates some dangerous situations, but Bayern quickly takes control of the game: in the 12th minute, Stanisic scores 1-0 from a quickly taken corner, exploiting a defensive lapse by the Goddess, then the Bavarians become unstoppable. Olise scores with a curling shot from a personal action for 2-0 and then assists Gnabry for 3-0. The German team has more chances to score, particularly with a shot hitting the post by Gnabry.
In the second half, Bayern brings on Davies (who later leaves in tears but on his feet) and Musiala, raising the level even further, leading to more goals: Nico Jackson scores with a shot into the corner, Olise places another curling shot into the corner and earns a standing ovation from the entire New Balance Arena, shortly after Musiala also scores a tap-in for 6-0. This is the worst defeat in Atalanta's history in the Champions League, surpassing the 5-0 against Liverpool in November 2020.
As the match progresses, Bayern comes close to a seventh goal several times: a missed shot from close range by Nico Jackson and a post hit by Upamecano do not increase the gap. Then in the last minute, Pasalic scores 6-1 into an empty net.
