The only Turk in the research deciphering music from brain waves spoke to DHA
A group of scientists from the University of Florida in the USA made volunteer patients listen to the legendary song 'Another Brick in the Wall' by the world-famous music group Pink Floyd and recorded their brain waves. The data obtained from the recorded brain waves were processed with artificial intelligence by neuroscientists from the University of California and the University of Washington, and the song the patients listened to was reconstructed. Thus, for the first time in the world, a 'familiar melody' was decoded from electrical brain activity recordings. Biomedical Engineer Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Gündüz, the lead researcher of the Brain Mapping Laboratory at the University of Florida, made her name in the world of science as the only Turk who was part of the team that made this new discovery, which was widely covered in international media such as The New York Times and The Guardian.Prof. Dr. Gündüz told Demirören News Agency for the first time about the details of the study, which is described as a revolution in the field of neuroscience. Prof. Dr. Gündüz said that in the coming years, thanks to this new method, patients who have lost the ability to speak can decipher what they want to say with the help of electrodes.
