The First Turkological Congress played an important role in shaping the common historical, linguistic, and cultural consciousness of the Turkic world, according to the statement of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan voiced at the opening ceremony of the Turkic World Week dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress.
The address noted that the participants in the First Turkological Congress, held in Baku in 1926, created a legacy through the decisions they adopted and the scientific views they presented – a legacy that sheds light not only on their own era but also on the present day.
It was also emphasized that preserving, strengthening, and passing these ideals on to future generations is the shared responsibility of the entire Turkic world. The address also highlighted that the activities of the Organization of Turkic States are continuing to deepen based on Ismail Gasprinsky’s principle of “Unity in language, thought, and action,” and that the vision defined by the First Turkological Congress continues to serve as a guiding light today.
The address further stressed that Türkiye’s main goal is to build the “Turkic Century” together on the basis of the common history, language, and culture of the Turkic world.
The President noted that just as the First Turkological Congress was held in Baku in 1926, it is no coincidence that the event dedicated to its 100th anniversary is also being organized in the Azerbaijani capital. According to him, Azerbaijan, one of the strongest advocates of the unity and solidarity of the Turkic world, continues to make an important contribution to achieving the shared goals of the Turkic states.
