The visit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and members of the European Commission to Türkiye is ongoing, and more detailed information about its outcomes will be presented after all meetings are concluded, the European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier stated at a briefing, Report informs.
According to him, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos is holding a series of bilateral talks with Turkish ministers during the trip. Yesterday, she met with the minister of finance, on June 30 - with the minister of transport, and later she was due to hold a meeting with the minister of trade, after which she will join the program with the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas and EU Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner.
Responding to a question about which specific areas of cooperation are being discussed, Mercier said that one of the main priorities is the development of the connectivity agenda.
"I would really emphasize our connectivity agenda. It was presented within the framework of the Black Sea strategy. The idea is to connect Europe and Asia through the South Caucasus, and partners such as Türkiye play a key role in this context," he stated.
According to him, the discussion concerns the development of transport and infrastructure networks that should simplify and accelerate trade between Europe and Asia.
Mercier noted that Kos has already visited Türkiye on multiple occasions, including in February, as part of efforts to develop EU relations with Ankara.
