Yalchin Rafiyev: Seven COP29 Presidency events to be held at Bonn sessionй

The 62nd session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies, known as SB62 or the “Bonn Session,” commenced today in Bonn, Germany. Its primary aim is to prepare for COP30. A year ago, this session focused on preparations for COP29, and now it addresses preliminary drafts of documents for the upcoming COP, Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and COP29 Lead Negotiator told journalists during SB62 in Bonn.

“Our primary role as the COP29 Presidency is to represent our country at a high level and support the organization of the next COP,” Rafiyev stated. “The goal here is to manage the process of adopting key documents. While this responsibility lies with Brazil, they have requested our support. We achieved significant, challenging decisions in Baku and built a strong team. Leveraging that experience, we are now assisting Brazil, especially given the complex global climate negotiations influenced by the current geopolitical situation.”

Rafiyev added, “This is the main purpose of our participation. Additionally, COP29 introduced 14 initiatives, and we plan to promote them through various events. Over the next two weeks, we will hold seven events in Bonn.”
