The International Telecommunication Union Global Youth Celebration 2025 was held in Baku as part of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25).
The event was designed to bring together young leaders, engineers, entrepreneurs, and students from around the world, serving as a platform to enhance their technological knowledge, foster new partnerships, and discuss the professions of the future.
Samaddin Asadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, and Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU, made opening remarks at the event.
The speakers emphasized the crucial role of active youth engagement in the ICT sector, alongside the contribution of the space industry and technology to achieving global development objectives.
The opening ceremony was preceded by an "Intergenerational Dialogue" session with young people from six regional offices of the ITU and Azerbaijan exchanging views.
The event featured interactive sessions, seminars and dialogues organized at the National Aviation Academy, the STEAM Innovation Center and the SPACE Academy of Azercosmos.
The National Aviation Academy hosted an interactive session focused on leveraging ICT for creating equal opportunities for young professionals, followed by a technical excursion to its advanced simulators, aerospace laboratories, and the aviation technology center.
The STEAM Innovation Center arranged a high-profile interactive panel featuring renowned astronauts—including Türkiye’s first (Alper Gezeravci), second (Tuva Cihangir Atasever), and Romania’s first (Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu)—where the discussions were focused on the pivotal role of telecommunications in advancing space exploration, concluding with an autograph session.
The Azercosmos-affiliated SPACE Academy organized a seminar for university students on the theme “Establishing Telecommunications with the International Space Station (ISS),” where participants gained critical, hands-on knowledge by learning to assemble their own orbital antennas and establish live communication links with the ISS.
The event concluded with a cultural and intergenerational networking session, which provided collaborative opportunities and dialogue by convening WTDC-25 participants, emerging professionals, and key public sector stakeholders.
