A decision to establish the “Coordination Council for Public Relations of Iraqi-Turkmen with Azerbaijan” was adopted at a large-scale event held at Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad on February 12.
In his remarks, Professor Mahmud Khalil Chayirli of University of Baghdad stated that the newly established Council will contribute to strengthening social, cultural, and spiritual ties between Azerbaijan and Iraqi-Turkmen, who share deep historical bonds with Azerbaijan, on a more systematic, sustainable, and institutional basis.
Other speakers at the event highlighted Azerbaijan’s significant and comprehensive support in studying the rich historical heritage of Iraqi-Turkmen, preserving their native language, and ensuring the transmission of their identity to future generations.
The participants also expressed profound gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for providing Iraqi students, including Iraqi-Turkmen youth, with the opportunity to receive high-quality education at Azerbaijani higher education institutions under the Heydar Aliyev Grant.
It was noted that the “Coordination Council for Public Relations of Iraqi-Turkmen with Azerbaijan” will operate as a non-governmental and non-political platform, bringing together Turkmen intellectuals representing leading scientific and public circles in Iraq on a single platform.
