Japan welcomes important step toward lasting peace and stability in the region, ambassador says

“Looking back over the three decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, we can see the steady development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Japan. Our cooperation has encompassed a wide range of areas, including politics, economics, culture, and education. Direct, people-to-people exchanges and active bilateral interaction between our countries played a pivotal role in strengthening deep bonds that unite us today,” said Katsuya Watanabe, Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan, during an event marking the birthday of the Emperor of Japan.

Describing 2025 as a truly momentous year for the South Caucasus region, including Azerbaijan, the ambassador highlighted the Joint Declaration signed on August 8 in Washington, aimed at achieving peace. “Japan welcomes this important step toward lasting peace and stability in the region," he emphasized.
