Azerbaijan was represented at the 13th Regional Forum on Sustainable Development organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok.
Advisor to Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Huseyn Huseynov, addressed the event in his capacity as Deputy Chair of the Forum.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Huseynov highlighted Azerbaijan’s progress in sustainable development, as well as the structural and institutional reforms implemented to advance this agenda.
The session titled “Review of Regional Progress and Opportunities in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” chaired by Azerbaijan, examined SDG-related achievements across the Asia-Pacific region. Discussions focused on regional UN system activities and challenges in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
As part of the forum, plenary discussions chaired by Azerbaijan covered final accountability, verification of delegations’ credentials, reporting sessions, and consideration of overall commitments. The outcomes of the roundtable on SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), held with the participation of government bodies, the private sector, civil society, and academia, were presented during the general plenary session.
The event brought together more than 1,200 representatives from over 40 countries, including government officials, international organizations, private sector entities, and non-governmental organizations. Discussions centered on accelerating SDG implementation, improving access to clean water and sanitation, promoting affordable and clean energy, advancing industry and innovation, and fostering inclusive, safe, and resilient cities. Participants also reviewed progress to date and explored opportunities to strengthen regional cooperation, as well as the outcomes of the UN’s Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
