On March 11, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia Miguel Àngel Moratinos, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the Global Baku Forum.

The sides discussed issues on the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the ongoing joint projects, as well as prospects for future cooperation.

The parties hailed the important role of the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations in promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue. They also emphasized the significance of Azerbaijan's contribution to intercultural dialogue within the Baku Process and through other international initiatives.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed Miguel Àngel Moratinos on the regional situation in the post-conflict period, Azerbaijan's peace efforts, as well as the peace process with Armenia.

Miguel Àngel Moratinos commended Azerbaijan's active and consistent policy in the field of intercultural dialogue at the international level.

He stressed the importance of Azerbaijan’s continuing to maintain successful cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilizations, also expressing his support for undertaking joint initiatives in the future.

The parties then discussed issues arising from the growing military escalation in the Middle East, expressing their concern over the current situation.

They also exchanged views on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest, including promoting intercultural solidarity in the face of global challenges and opportunities for joint action in combating Islamophobia.
