Vaira Vike-Freiberga says UN principles losing their effectiveness

"We extend our gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting this forum for the 13th time. I recall that when we have first launched this initiative, we shared our idea with President Ilham Aliyev. He, in turn, proposed holding a large-scale event in Azerbaijan. Today, representatives from many countries around the world are participating in this forum," said Co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, former Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga at the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum.

According to her, the conflicts and confrontations currently unfolding around the world are leading to human casualties as well as the destruction of historical civilizations.

“We observe that the influence of the principles constituting the foundation of the United Nations, which for many years regulated international relations, has weakened. Today, the power factor has come to the fore. In the modern world, information technologies also play a major role and exert a significant impact on the concept of justice," Vaira Vike-Freiberga noted.
