Presentation of Baku in Mexico: A demonstration of historical heritage & modern urban planning experience

A presentation of Baku city was held in San Francisco de Campeche, Mexico, as part of the General Assembly of Mexican World Heritage Cities of UNESCO.

The event was attended by Samantha Smith, President of the National Association of Mexican World Heritage Cities; Director General Jorge Ortega González; Mayor of Campeche Bibi Rabelo, as well as representatives of scientific circles and the diplomatic corps.

The Azerbaijani side was invited to the event as an honorary guest. Seymur Fataliyev, Azerbaijani ambassador to Mexico and Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, addressed the event through video message.

Seymur Fataliyev underlined that Azerbaijan is a homeland of ancient civilizations and its cities are distinguished by their rich historical and cultural heritage.

He noted that the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan on May 17-22 of this year. This event is an invaluable platform for Azerbaijan to strengthen the country's position on the global urban planning agenda, as well as to promote sustainable and "smart urban planning models" in the region.

Rufat Mahmud highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Icherisheher, and the challenges faced in managing life in the historical urban environment.

The presentations featured photos reflecting the ancient and modern appearance of Baku, which aroused great interest among the participants.
