The final settlement of the consequences of AZAL airline plane crash will lead to new opportunities for the development of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, said Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation during her meeting with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament.

"We were delighted that our governments made a final decision yesterday on the elimination of the consequences of the tragic plane crash. We have completed this stage, and it will lead to the further development of mutually beneficial relations between Russia and Azerbaijan,” she noted.

Matviyenko underlined that Russia-Azerbaijan relations enjoy significant potential and successfully develop across various areas, hailing the level of interparliamentary cooperation.

The meeting took place as part of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul.
