A commemoration ceremony was held in the village of Monte di Nese, in the Bergamo province of Italy’s Lombardy region, to honor 120 Azerbaijanis who were killed by fascists in April 1945, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Italy told AZERTAC.
The event was attended by Camillo Bertocchi, Mayor of the Municipality of Alzano Lombardo, and Vugar Hajiyev, Advisor at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Italy, who spoke about the events that took place 81 years ago.
Hajiyev noted that the Azerbaijanis had left their homes at the time with the hope of returning, but fate destined them to become eternal guardians of those mountains. He emphasized that the ceremony was held to pay tribute to their memory.
