Trump: Xi wants to help open the Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump said, "Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to help with the agreement with Iran and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz."

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a statement to the American press, evaluated his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump reported that Xi expressed hope for both reaching an agreement with Iran and resuming commercial passages in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump stated, “President Xi wants a deal to be made. He also made an offer, saying, 'If I can help in any way, I would like to help.' He wants the Strait of Hormuz to remain open, and it is clear that everyone who buys so much oil has some kind of relationship with the Iranians, but he indicated that he wants to help if he can in any way.”

Noting that China is one of the countries that imports the most oil from Iran, Trump conveyed that Beijing wants to continue this and that Xi openly expressed this to him. Trump said that Chinese President Xi assured him that he would not provide military support to Iran.

Trump also reported that Xi agreed to purchase 200 aircraft from the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
