The British Armed Forces reported stopping an oil tanker belonging to the Russian shadow fleet in the English Channel.
The UK Ministry of Defence announced that in a six-hour operation, Royal Marine Commandos and trained law enforcement officers from the National Crime Agency boarded a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the English Channel. It was stated that the Royal Air Force also supported the operation.
The statement noted that the oil tanker named 'Smyrtos', which is on the sanctions list, will be held off the southern coast of England during the investigation and will be monitored for environmental or security risks.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the operation dealt a new blow to Russia, stating, “Those fueling Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine will not be allowed to hide.”
