French President Emmanuel Macron said, “The French flagship Charles de Gaulle sent to the Middle East is returning to Toulon Port.”
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on his social media account that his country has deployed mine-clearing capabilities in the Middle East, including 2 mine-hunting ships. Macron stated that these are accompanied by 2 frigates and 1 maritime patrol aircraft, and expressed readiness to contribute to the security of ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz with their partners.
Macron highlighted that the memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran on June 17 is an important development for the stability of the region, saying, “The freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was reaffirmed in the memorandum. Following my meeting with Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq of Oman, I decided to review the French capabilities in the region, considering the positive developments and changing needs. The flagship Charles de Gaulle is returning to the port in Toulon, France,” he said.
