Approximately 50,000 people were evacuated due to forest fires around the city of Girona in Spain's Catalonia Autonomous Region.
In the Catalonia Autonomous Region in eastern Spain, fires that initially started in the settlement of La Bisbal d'Emporda in the city of Girona later expanded due to the wind in the districts of Vilademuls and Bescano, affecting about 10 settlements.
In a statement from the European Forest Fire Information System, it was reported that approximately 50,000 people were evacuated from their homes or workplaces as a precaution due to the fires. Officials noted that some roads were closed to traffic due to the forest fires and urged residents to 'avoid going outside unless necessary and to keep their windows closed to avoid being affected by the smoke.'
