Le Pen officially announces presidential candidacy
French politician Marine Le Pen announced her candidacy for the 2027 French presidential elections after the Paris Court of Appeal shortened her ban on running for public office.

In France, French politician Marine Le Pen, who was found guilty of corruption in a case where she was tried for embezzling European Union (EU) funds by the Paris Court of Appeal, announced in a television program she attended after the decision that she would run in the 2027 presidential elections. Le Pen said, "I am a candidate in the presidential election."

Le Pen, who said she would appeal to the French Court of Cassation against the decision, argued that her appeal would suspend the effects of the appellate decision. Le Pen stated, "I will conduct my campaign without an electronic bracelet. My political future should be decided at the ballot box rather than by a court decision. Nothing should be imposed on the French people."

The Paris Court of Appeal sentenced politician Marine Le Pen, who was found guilty of corruption, to 1 year of house arrest with an electronic bracelet, a 15-month ban from politics, and a fine of 100,000 euros.
