The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 4,734, with the number of injured reported as 16,740.
Venezuela National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez shared an update on the situation via his social media account following the two severe earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that occurred on June 24. Rodriguez announced that the death toll from the disaster has reached 4,734, while the number of injured has risen to 16,740.
According to the data shared by Rodriguez, 6,462 people have been rescued alive from the rubble so far as part of the search and rescue efforts. It was reported that 856 buildings were damaged and 190 buildings were completely destroyed in the regions hit by the severe tremors. A total of 1,275 aftershocks have been recorded in the region so far following the main earthquakes. It was stated that 17,907 people have been left homeless due to the earthquakes, while 20,903 people are living in 107 temporary shelters that have been set up.
In a statement reporting that 128,324 families have been reached as part of intervention and aid efforts, it was noted that 30,989 personnel and 31,050 volunteers are on the ground in the disaster area. Additionally, it was announced that 2,471 international search and rescue experts are also supporting the efforts. As part of humanitarian aid, it was shared that 10,063 tons of food and more than 21.7 million liters of water have been distributed so far.
