Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo surpasses 2,000 cases

In the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the number of cases has surpassed 2,000, with the death toll reaching 754.

According to a situation report released by health officials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country has risen to 2,011. Since the outbreak was declared on May 15, 754 people have died, and 366 patients have recovered. The report noted that 753 people are currently being held in isolation.

It was noted that the transmission rate remains high in Ituri province, the epicenter of the outbreak. The emergence of new cases in Haut-Uele province indicates that the outbreak is spreading geographically, emphasizing the need to immediately strengthen surveillance, diagnostic capacity, and operational readiness.

Health officials stated that since the beginning of the outbreak, the situation has remained in a 'continuous transmission' phase, marked by a rapid increase in cases.
