In a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was reported that two letters were delivered by Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Sani, addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council for July, Zenon Mukongo Ngay, the Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the UN. The letters stated that Iran's attacks on Qatari territory were a clear violation of the country's sovereignty, directly threatened its territorial integrity and security, and constituted an unacceptable escalation endangering regional security and stability.
The letters emphasized that Iran targeted the Qatari transport ship 'Al Rukayyat' during its passage near the Strait of Hormuz on July 7, 2026. It was reported that on July 12, 2026, the Qatari Ministry of Defense announced that the country was subjected to a ballistic missile attack, with the Qatari Armed Forces intercepting numerous ballistic missiles, and the Ministry of Interior reported that three people, including a child, were injured due to falling shrapnel from the interception activities. The letters also noted that Iran's attacks were a clear violation of international law, as well as the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols. Additionally, it was highlighted that the attacks violated UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), and it was stated that the Tehran administration is obliged to compensate for all damages suffered by Qatar.
