UN Calls for 'Resolution Through Diplomacy' Amid US-Iran Tensions

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General's Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated in a daily press briefing that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply concerned about the ongoing military tensions between Iran and the US over the past few days. Dujarric noted that the crisis affects all countries in the region, saying, "The crisis puts pressure on trade systems, access to humanitarian aid, transportation costs, and the prices of fuel and essential goods in these regional countries and beyond. The Secretary-General is also concerned about attacks on civilian infrastructure, including a nuclear power plant under construction and a water treatment facility in Iran, as well as attacks on energy plants and water treatment facilities in Kuwait and other places across the region," he said.

Emphasizing that Guterres stated such attacks are 'unacceptable and must be stopped immediately,' Dujarric said, "The Secretary-General reiterates that there is no military solution to this conflict and calls for intensified diplomatic efforts for a peaceful, lasting resolution. Any agreement reached between the parties must fully restore international navigation rights and freedoms in and around the Strait of Hormuz," he said.
